Do what is fun, be an ACTOR
I decided to be an ACTOR!
I've never had a hard time getting along with people, I know how to play the game, be polite and courteous. However, I've found it hard to genuinely connect and like people. Growing up in small towns, moving every four years, I was always "forced" to be around a certain group of people (when your high school has an population of 288, you generally are "friends" with people out of necessity not choice). When I finally decided that I wanted to be an actor, I got involved in as much theatre as I could. I began finding myself genuinely enjoying the company of the people I was around. It became very obvious when I left the small town I called home, and moved to a center with a thriving theatre community.
ACTING created a community I belonged in!
When I arrived in my new home I auditioned for a play about the Second World War. Although this is a heavy topic to be on the stage, I gained the best friends I had ever had. I dont know how to explain it, but there seems to be a connection or bond created between actors extremly quickly. It may come from the fact that actors tend to always have their vectors out and are always in reception to those around them. These actors I met were friends within minutes of talking to them, and not the friends I had in the past in high school. For me that was the sign that I had found what I truely loved to do and become a part of a community I wanted to be in.
VADA taught me everything about ACTING and gave me the oppurtunity meet awesome actors!
When the play wrapped I knew I needed more of it. I looked for schooling and found Vancouver would be the best fit for me to study. The first day of class I knew that I had not made a mistake, becasue I loved being around all my fellow class mates, and enjoyed working with them in the scene work. To me that is when you know you are on the right track. Its when you have fun in what you do and enjoy being around the people you are working with, or as us actors call it, creating with!
So my question for you is, what do you enjoy, what makes you happy. If you hve yet to find it give acting a try. It helped me find everything and more!
