It stands for the Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts. It was the creation of Simon Longmore. The purpose is simple: To motivate and Inspire.
Founded on principles of truth and discipline, the studio produces professional caliber actors year after year.
In a brief history, Simon was trained in the classical methods and ideologies. This gave way to the birth to his own philosophy. His teaching style is unorthodox and beguiling. Taking the classical style and theory and placing it into a contemporary viewpoint for modern day artists. This teaching style is reflected in all of the programs offered at the studio. The same passion and enthusiasm Simon teaches with is echoed with each of the instructors. (click here to find out more about VADA's working professional instructors).
VADA's first location was in a warehouse in china town. The space was really not the most optimum by any means but it worked. We made it work. The next location was better as it boasted a little theatre and light grid. A fire in the adjacent building caused sufficient damage and thus forced yet another move. Now VADA resides on Hamilton Street. The 40 seat theatre is bright, colorful and aestetic. It is beauty of a space to create in.
The Dramatic Arts Program (DAP) is the studios full-time program. It has a fundamental approach to training actors. Simply put: we demand a lot. The program is an industry driven course. If you want to be a professional actor then you need to adhere to what the professional standard is. Acting is highly competitive and challenging, for a career in this business is not for the weak willed or wishy-washy. The professional tone & pace is set from the first day, gradually increasing until graduation. You must be determined.
If you feel you want to be part of the studio then please feel free to contact us.
